Addition Tricks
When in doubt, use a ruler!
When answering our number sentences, we use our ruler as a divider.
The ruler serves as the divider between the 1st number of the number sentence, and the 2nd number in the number sentence.
For example:
41 + 6 =
There are 41 counters on the left side of the ruler.
There are 6 counters on the right side of the ruler.
When the student is ready to add the counters together, they remove the ruler and count them altogether!
